Letts becomes the first USU head coach to win their opener since Pam McCreesh won her first game in 1998. LETTS ERA OPENS WITH WIN - First-year Candi Letts won her first game at the helm of the Aggies with the 11-2 win over Southern Utah on Feb. ![]() The Spartans took the first game with Nevada, 2-1, before being blanked 3-0 and 10-0 (5 inn) in the next two, including being no-hit in the third game. SJSU has won three of its last six games, going 1-2 in a three-game series with Nevada last weekend after going 2-1 with La Tech the previous weekend. The four wins in a row was USU's longest win streak of the season, and the Aggies have won five of their last nine games.ĪBOUT SAN JOSE STATE - The Spartans are 19-21 overall and 4-8 in WAC play, entering the weekend tied for fifth. Utah State is 4-5 in WAC action, after sweeping their first-ever WAC series and first conference series since 2004, beating Louisiana Tech in three games, winning a thriller Friday, 7-6 (9 inn), and taking two Saturday, 12-4 (8 inn) and 6-5. ABOUT UTAH STATE - The Aggies are 14-25 overall, after having their four-game win streak snapped with two losses (7-6 and 4-2) at Utah Valley State on Tuesday. PAIR OF THIEVES - This weekend features the top two base stealers in WAC play, as both USU junior SS Tara Evans and SJSU junior OF Liz Perez have six stolen bases in WAC games. Last year at Logan, SJSU won three one-run games, 2-1 on April 21, followed by 9-8 and 3-2 victories on April 22. SJSU won all three of last year's meetings, after USU had won three of the previous four match-ups. Prior to last season's WAC series, the Aggies and Spartans didn't meet since 2002. SERIES HISTORY - Utah State holds a 20-17 (.541) advantage in the all-time series, USU's second-highest percentage and second-most games against a WAC foe. ![]() San Jose State is tied for fifth, one and a half games back and. WAC STANDINGS - After entering the weekend occupying last place in the conference standings in the seventh-spot, Utah State's three wins vaulted the Aggies to third in the standings. The brooming is also the first conference series sweep since April 3-4, 2004, when USU took three from Cal State Fullerton. This past weekend's three wins gives the Aggies, who are in their second season in the Western Athletic Conference, their first WAC series sweep. ![]() The win over Nevada on April 7 was USU's first conference win in its sixth league game, compared to the first WAC win coming in last year's 12th league game. Both the 20 squads had a 16-26 record through 42 games, so a three game sweep this weekend would give the Aggies their best record of the 2000's through 42 games. The 14-25 ledger is one game behind the 2005 squad (15-24) for best record through 39 games of the 2000's, tying the 2000 Aggies. The Aggies' 14 wins reaches double-digits in the win column for the first time in three years, topping last season's 8-38 record. The last win on the road for USU was the Aggies' 2-0 win at then 15th-ranked Oregon State on March 17.īETTER THAN BEFORE - USU is 14-25 on the season, topping last season's win total (8-38), when the Aggies upset then #15 Oregon State, 2-0, on March 17 at Corvallis, Ore., the Beavers' first shutout loss at home to an unranked team since April 29, 2005. USU takes a five-game road losing skid into this weekend, the Aggies longest road skein of the season. The Aggies have won five of their last nine games. STREAKING AGGIES - Tuesday's two losses at Utah Valley State snapped Utah State's four-game winning streak, the Aggies' longest win streak of the season and longest string of wins since April 30-May 8, 2005, when USU also won four in a row. The Aggie duo are both from Red Bluff, Calif., and will reunite with San Jose State's Kasey Igarta and Brittany McConnell who are also both from Red Bluff. RED BLUFF REUNION - This weekend marks a special reunion for USU junior 3B Amy Schaible and sophomore 1B/DH Aubrie Stroman, who will reunited with two former teammates from high school. (MT), with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for a 1 p.m. First pitch for Friday's single-game is slated for 3 p.m. QUICKLY - Resuming Western Athletic Conference action, Utah State softball (14-25, 4-5 WAC) heads to San Jose, Calif., to take on San Jose State (19-21, 4-8 WAC), in a three-game weekend series.
